How Long?

There seems to be no end
To this pandemic.
Having spilt colour on bleak walls,
Having strung new parodies,
Having captured
The bygone in sharing memories,
Having counted out donations,
We have proved
Our insignificance.
We have volunteered not to panic,
Not call helplines,
Not seek abroad for fresh air
And also not sneeze indoors.
What more can we do?
Sit and watch
Old serials for lack of any new,
Sit and stitch a deferred frock,
Rearrange book shelves,
Read a few
And then cook rationed food
For the day;
What else can we do?
The check to
Our activities outdoors
Have lessened the burden
On the Earth’s crust for sure
And we acknowledge it with humility
But how long
Can we endure this nullity?
How long can we watch the ants
Go by with their purposes
And tolerate our own
Inactivity?
